Oct 11, 2017
HOUSTON, TX – Oct. 11, 2017 – CITGO Petroleum Corporation announced its Fueling Good. Rebuilding Lives. initiative today, which will contribute a percentage of CITGO gas station purchases at the pump to long-term recovery in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. For the next three months, 1 cent from every gallon of CITGO fuel purchased - up to $8 million - will be donated to qualified organizations that are helping local communities rebuild after the devastating impact of these natural disasters.
According to the most recent published estimates, recovery from these destructive hurricanes will take years. That is why CITGO is committed to helping the affected communities on this road to recovery by contributing toward rebuilding efforts, especially the homes of the many families in need who were displaced by the storms.
CITGO, in coordination with local authorities, has already contributed to numerous immediate relief efforts for areas in need. This includes a $3 million donation to the Greater Houston Community Foundation and contributing more than 12,000 gallons of fuel for first responders in the City of Houston. TeamCITGO volunteers have also donated more than 100 hours in Houston and Corpus Christi, Texas. CITGO volunteers have focused on cleaning up the debris left behind by Harvey and preparing homes for rebuilding efforts.
CITGO is contributing to recovery efforts outside of Houston as well. The CITGO Corpus Christi refinery donated $500,000 toward the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, 3,300 gallons of potable water for the community and 9,000 gallons of fuel. In addition, CITGO will contribute up to 50,000 barrels of diesel fuel to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Municipality of San Juan to help the island recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria.
