CITGO Awarded Habitat for Humanity Texas' 2018 Business Partner of the Year
Aug 7, 2018
HOUSTON, Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- CITGO Petroleum Corporation has been named the Habitat for Humanity Texas' 2018 Business Partner of the Year. The award recognizes a Habitat for Humanity partner that has displayed a deep commitment to achieving the mission of Habitat for Humanity, excellence in community giving and hands-on volunteerism.
In the wake of the devastating impact of Hurricane Harvey, CITGO volunteers took immediate action by rebuilding approximately 22 homes in the Rockport, Texas community alongside Habitat. Recognizing the long-term impact Hurricane Harvey would have on Texas communities, CITGO also dedicated more than $1 million to Habitat for Humanity Texas and local affiliates to rebuild, rehabilitate and repair homes in impacted areas over the course of the next few years.
"The tremendous generosity we've seen from companies like CITGO shows that no disaster can match the spirit of Texas when we work together," said Texas Governor Greg Abbott. "When companies invest here, they invest in the people of Texas, and CITGO's announcement is a testament to the company's commitment to these communities during the recovery process. This donation will go a long way in helping those trying to rebuild their lives after Harvey, and I thank CITGO for its dedication to helping victims recover."
Habitat for Humanity Texas' 2018 award ceremony will take place during the annual Lone Star Summit, a convening of more than 50 local Habitat affiliates in Texas. While Habitat for Humanity Texas and local Habitat offices are supported by many generous partners, the Business Partner of the Year Award is awarded to a company that has gone above and beyond to provide support across Texas by serving multiple local Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
"We're so grateful to CITGO and its employees for all of their support this year," said Amy Parham, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Texas. "It means a lot to us to be able to present this award in honor of the deep partnership CITGO has built with the Texas Habitat for Humanity family. CITGO not only recognizes Habitat's need for time, talent and resources, but they provide them as well. From CITGO employee volunteers on Habitat build sites and financial donations to helping Habitat plan for the future, CITGO is truly invested in building – and rebuilding – Texas communities."
CITGO Vice President of Strategic Shareholder Relations, Government and Public Affairs, Rafael Gomez said the core of the CITGO corporate social responsibility belief is a commitment to being a good neighbor. "We will always believe that actions speak louder than words. And I think that this award proves that belief. We are humbled to be selected as the Habitat for Humanity Texas' 2018 Business Partner of the Year, but we are even more humbled to be part of this great Texas community. It is an honor to give back when it is in need."
