Dec 8, 2005
HOUSTON - Dec. 8, 2005 --- CITGO Petroleum Corporation presented Houston Mayor Bill White, Harris County Judge Robert Eckels, Chairman and CEO of the Houston Astros Drayton McLane, and CEO of the Houston Chapter of the Red Cross Davis Henderson with awards recognizing their outstanding community leadership.
“We are so proud to have CITGO in this community,” Mayor Bill White said, noting that the company had been among the first to respond to calls for help during the emergency created with the arrival of thousands of hurricane Katrina evacuees.
“And thank goodness that we have CITGO’s refining throughput capacity right now. It is very important to the United States because of hurricanes Katrina and Rita,” he added. The mayor also thanked CITGO for its initiative to distribute heating oil at a discount to lower income residents of the Northeastern United States.
“It is not just people in the Northeast, the American people (in general) appreciate this very much,” he noted.
The awards were presented during an open house at CITGO’s new corporate headquarters in the Energy Corridor of West Houston.
During the event, CITGO President and CEO Félix Rodríguez was presented the Red Cross “Circle of Humanitarians” award, the organization’s highest distinction.
Additionally, CITGO presented Houston METRO with a $50,000 donation to help with fuel the fleet of buses and support vehicles that METRO is using to shuttle hurricane evacuees around Harris County.
