Lake Charles, La. --- At approximately 4 a.m. (CT) today, a fire occurred at Coker I Unit of CITGO’s Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex. The fire was extinguished at approximately 7:30 a.m. All CITGO and contract employees have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported.
Louisiana State Police, Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER), Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Office of Emergency Preparedness and hazardous materials teams are on-site and assisting with the incident.
“We are thankful there have been no injuries and no off-site community impact,” said Al Prebula, vice president of CITGO’s Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex. “An investigation will begin immediately to determine the cause of the accident.”
CITGO, based in Houston, is a refiner, transporter and marketer of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals, refined waxes, asphalt and other industrial products. The company is owned by PDV America, Inc., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A., the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
